Sample 1

1. Write a personal statement about yourself including how this research focused programme supports your career aspirations and topics/areas you are interested to gain knowledge and experience.

I have been living in Africa for the past 10 years looking after the wildlife. Since young, I have learnt to live independently away from the world. I am very interested to apply for the scholarship for the research focused programme at GEA as it has always been my passion to gain knowledge and to apply what I have gained to benefit the rest of society. I will be focusing on 3 main areas in my personal statement, namely, my situation today, my career aspirations to be a wildlife researcher in the future and my interest in gaining knowledge on technology to help wildlife.

My situation today is unique from most others. Unlike most who spend their weekends with family and friends chatting and having a good time, I am alone. I spend most of my time caring for the animals in the reserve. The animals are my family. I lost my family during the war, and I was brought up here. One example of my day is to walk the dogs in my car around the park to ensure that the fences are in working condition. This is my live today.

My career aspiration has always been to become a wildlife researcher. A wildlife researcher such as a zoologists and wildlife biologists study animals and other wildlife and how they interact with their ecosystems. They study the physical characteristics of animals, animal behaviors, and the impacts humans have on wildlife and natural habitats. If I receive the scholarship, I will be able to pursue my career aspiration.

Finally, I am interested to gain knowledge on the latest upcoming technology to help wildlife. Technology has come along way in solving problems for not just us but animals as well. We can use technology to improve the lives of animals in many ways. For example, drone technology can be used to survey the ecosystem quicky, efficiently and quietly without damaging the habitat. The information gained can be used by researchers to learn more about the lives of animals and how we can protect their habitats.

In conclusion, I am hopeful to receive the scholarship to pursue the research focused programme as it matches with my current situation, it will allow me to pursue my career aspiration of becoming a wildlife researcher and I can gain knowledge on new technologies to improve the lives of the animals. I strongly feel that I am a good fit for this research programme.

Sample 2

2. Write a proposal on your potential research project. The proposal should include potential research topics, motivation for choosing those topics, the benefits of your potential research for businesses, consumers, government and the overall society.

I am very interested in the area of robots and how robots can help in the central kitchen. In our current day, I have seen robots in different fields of work from construction to service. On a visit to the Changi Airport Terminal 3, I witnessed a cleaning robot moving around the airport independently without any human support. I am interested to see how robots can manage the central kitchen automatically by itself.

My motivation to choose the topic on robots and how robots can help in the kitchen is from my passion for running my own restaurant in the future. I understand how difficult it is to run a central kitchen manually. We need to look for talented and trustworthy chefs. With the use of robots, I can more easily run my future restaurant around the clock without the worry of having to look for staff. With the COVID-19 pandemic, I can still operate my central kitchen to serve food to the public without fear of the robot getting sick.

My research topic on robots and how robots can help in the central kitchen can benefits other restaurants and individuals who require an automated kitchen such as the government and the elderly. With my research, other restaurants can implement robots in their kitchens. This will allow them to operate more efficiently and focus their time and efforts on other parts of their business. My research can also help elderly who are unable to cook for themselves at home. The robots can assist in their food preparation. This can also be used in government run facilities.

In conclusion, I hope to get a chance to work on my research topic about robots and how robots can help in the central kitchen. I understand that such research will take time, effort, and resources. I strongly believe that the research topic will be highly beneficial for the society. I am interested to meet like minded professionals and researchers to learn from their areas of expertise and experience to grow the body of knowledge in the area of robots together.
