An academic programme executive is a professional who is responsible for planning, developing, and managing academic programmes and courses for a specific discipline, department, or faculty within an educational institution. An academic programme executive’s main goal is to ensure the quality, relevance, and coherence of the academic programmes and courses, and to enhance the learning outcomes and experiences of the students and the faculty.

Some of the typical duties of an academic programme executive are

  1. Conducting curriculum review and development, in consultation with the faculty, the students, and the external stakeholders, such as industry partners, accreditation bodies, or alumni.
  2. Managing and overseeing the delivery and assessment of academic programmes and courses, such as scheduling, resourcing, evaluation, and reporting.
  3. Coordinating and facilitating the academic quality assurance and enhancement processes, such as programme accreditation, validation, review, audit, or feedback.
  4. Providing academic leadership and support to the faculty and the students, such as mentoring, coaching, advising, or resolving issues or complaints.
  5. Communicating and collaborating with internal teams, such as admissions, marketing, finance, or IT, to ensure alignment and integration of academic programmes and courses with the institutional policies and strategies.

To be a successful academic programme executive, you need to have the following skills and qualifications

  1. A recognised bachelor’s degree or a 3-year diploma in the relevant discipline or field of study. A professional certification in academic programme management is a plus.
  2. At least 3 years of experience working on a relevant project with an academic institution.
  3. Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  4. Strong leadership, project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic and diverse environment.
  6. Knowledge of the current trends, best practices, and standards in higher education.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and CMS software.
  8. Willing and able to travel regularly to and from Singapore where required.
